Get Wisdom at All Cost
When Wisdom Finds You: How My Struggles Led Me to Proverbs and Real Change
I never set out thinking I’d write about wisdom. Honestly, for most of my life, I was hustling, chasing business goals, racking up degrees, trying to build something that would make me and my family proud. Faith was more like a jacket I only wore on holidays than a steady companion. But everything changed the year I finally hit a wall and realized success wasn’t enough.
The Hard Road to Wisdom
It’s strange how we learn. I built a nursing institute that made money, launched brands, hired dozens of people, and kept thinking, If I just work harder, I’ll find peace. But all that striving came at a cost. My relationships suffered. My health declined. My spiritual life was shallow at best. When the business started to fall apart, taking my sense of control with it, I was forced to confront questions I’d spent years avoiding.
My Turning Point
Four months into my journey seeking closeness to God, I first read the Book of Proverbs in April 2025. At that time, the words didn’t fully resonate with me, they felt distant, like advice I wasn’t quite ready to embrace. It wasn’t until January 2026 that Proverbs truly began to speak to my heart. Each day that month, I read one chapter of Proverbs, letting its wisdom wash over me slowly but deeply. By January 31st, the last day of my reading, something had shifted inside me.
Desperation has a way of breaking through pride. As I journeyed through Proverbs day by day, I realized that wisdom isn’t about being the smartest person in the room; it’s about being humble enough to admit you don’t have all the answers.
What Proverbs Taught Me
Reading Proverbs was more than an intellectual exercise; it stirred discomfort and challenged me deeply, even bringing moments of pain. It mirrored my own story back to me: the cost of pride, the emptiness of chasing wealth, the danger of ignoring wise counsel, and the hope that comes from starting again. Proverbs repeats one idea in a hundred ways: get wisdom, no matter what it costs. The price of living without it is always higher. I saw that wisdom isn’t something you find once and keep forever, it’s something you pursue daily. I started praying for a pure heart, for strength to face my mistakes, and for courage to change.
Here’s what hit home for me, and what I think could help you too:
Success without wisdom is empty. I had money and recognition, but I was spiritually bankrupt.
Ignoring your soul catches up with you. No business win could heal the ache I felt inside.
Real change starts with honesty. Like King David in the Bible, I had to own my mistakes before I could heal.
God’s love is patient, kind, and stronger than failure. That’s the kind of love Proverbs points us toward, a love that transforms.
The Areas Wisdom Touches
Proverbs doesn’t just talk about “spiritual” things; it speaks to every part of life. Here’s a quick look at the impact wisdom (or the lack of it) has:
Life Area | Wisdom Brings... | Without Wisdom... |
Money & Work | Stewardship, peace, growth | Stress, debt, missed opportunities |
Words & Speech | Healing, trust, deeper relationships | Hurt, conflict, broken connections |
Relationships | Real love, forgiveness, loyalty | Betrayal, loneliness, mistrust |
Pride vs. Humility | Growth, new chances, learning | Stagnation, regret, collapse |
Discipline | Progress, clarity, purpose | Chaos, frustration, wasted years |
Temptation & Choices | Protection, freedom, integrity | Regret, addiction, pain |
An Invitation to Start Your Own Journey
If you’re reading this and feel stuck, exhausted, or just hungry for something deeper, let me encourage you: wisdom is for you. Not just the “spiritual elite,” but for anyone willing to ask, to listen, and to let their story change. Don’t wait for a crisis to get started, start today.
One of the most powerful tools I’ve used on my own journey is journaling. Sometimes we just need space, to pour out our thoughts, write prayers, or jot down spiritual insights that come while reading. That’s why I created two blank journals, each meant to be a companion for your own journey to wisdom:
Get Wisdom at All Cost: The title itself is a daily reminder. This journal is where I write down insights, favorite verses, and lessons I’m learning from Proverbs and beyond. The cover speaks to me every time I see it, nudging me to keep seeking wisdom, no matter the cost.
Look to the Ant: Inspired by Proverbs’ advice to learn from the diligence and discipline of the ant, this journal helps me capture moments of growth, discipline, and the small steps I’m taking to build a wiser life. The cover always calls me back to the kind of steady, humble progress wisdom requires.
Both journals are blank inside waiting for your reflections, your prayers, your questions, your growth. You can use them any way you want, as a spiritual diary, a notebook for church or Bible study, or a safe place to process what’s happening in your heart. If you’re looking for a simple, personal way to track your own journey, I hope these journals will speak to you the way their covers speak to me.
Final Thoughts
Proverbs teaches that wisdom is worth more than gold. I had to lose a lot to finally see its value. My hope is that you can learn from my mistakes and find a better way—before you hit a wall like I did.
Thank you for reading, and may you find wisdom that brings you real peace, healing, and joy.
